Hospital Packing List

Everyone has their own take on what's essential to pack for the hospital. Below is a list of what I found helpful. I packed four separate bags, which made for simple organization.

Baby Bag
The hospital provides nearly everything that you will need for baby, so all the swaddles I brought were unnecessary. However, I'm glad that I packed a few items.
  • Cute newborn hat - While Sibley provides hats that are made by residents at the nearby nursing home (super sweet sentiment), they look like smurf hats. I purchased this pink striped hat with a bow.
  • Boppy nursing pillow - Great for nursing but also to sit on because your booty will be sore
  • Going home outfit
  • DSLR camera
  • Phone charger
Mom Bag
  • Robe
  • Slippers
  • Black pajamas that unbutton for nursing- I felt like a new woman changing from a hospital gown into these on day 2.
  • Honest Organic Nipple Balm
  • Hair dryer and brush
  • Mini toiletries
    • Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, face oil, mild soap, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, razor
    • The mini Beautycounter and Dr. Bronners samples were perfect!
    • Concealer, bronzer, mascara - Again, this made me feel like a new woman on day 2.
  • Bath towel - The towels at Sibley might as well be washcloths. They are super small.
  • Going home outfit - Look presentable. You will feel better about yourself!

Dad Bag
I didn't pack Jordan's bag so I cannot help you there. Dads, ask him what to bring. I did send him home to shower the day after delivery, which I think he appreciated and was better for.

Snack Bag
I packed Vitamin Water (for me), Gatorade (for him), pretzels, beef jerky, and gum. I also included 5 Hour Energy shots, but Jordan didn't need them due to my short labor and delivery. Next time I will include Advil in this bag.

Pillows
Bring 2-3 of your own pillows with non-white pillow cases (Sibley's pillow cases are white). Your husband and you will be both be glad that you did!

Finally, everyone says it... and for a good reason. Stock on up all the hospital handouts while you're there. Pads, ice packs, toilet mats (yes, you will still bleed at home), numbing spray, witch hazel, diapers, and wipes will be welcomed when you return home. Also, snag a swaddling blanket if you can. Eleanor Bea loved these at nap time the first two weeks.

Happy packing!
